Everything you need to know about eyeliner tattoo
The eyeliner tattoo isn’t really permanent. It’s just the term the industry uses, and it’s more exactly semi-permanent.
Thinking about applying makeup permanently? Maybe you hate applying your eyeliner on a daily basis, or you can’t apply it as precisely as you want, or maybe you hate the constant struggle of trying to achieve the perfect eye contour.
Whatever your reasons, you can find a solution in eyeliner tattoo. We spoke with experts in the field to find out everything there is to know about the process, how long it takes, and perhaps most importantly, how long it takes.
First of all, it’s important to note that permanent eyeliner isn’t really permanent (more on that later). It’s just the term the industry uses, and it’s more exactly semi-permanent.
At Eyebrows, Microblading & Permanent Makeup Studio, it is considered permanent because the pigment will remain on the skin forever, but the longevity of the color and its visibility will eventually fade.
Permanent makeup is sometimes also referred to as tattoo makeup because the process is similar to a regular body art tattoo – a needle is used to deposit ink on the skin.
The process is not the same as getting a tattoo because the pigment is deposited only in the first layers of the skin. The ink used for normal body tattoos is formulated differently and ‘goes much deeper.
There are reasons to be cautious, especially if you are taking Accutane. Aside from the difference in inks and techniques, preparing for semi-permanent or permanent makeup application is’ basically like any other tattoo. As such, it carries the same risks and contraindications that would apply to a normal body tattoo.
As a precaution, we ask clients to stop taking blood thinners for the past three days, including things like aspirin, Advil, fish oils and certain vitamins, to minimise any possible bleeding, which normally does not occur, “he said.
If you are looking to get Botox or other injections in the eye area, you should definitely do it before you get the eyeliner applied. You should also make sure it is fully cured at least two weeks before your scheduled liner date.
And he may not be an ideal candidate, Falco said. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you have diabetes or other serious illnesses that affect your immune system and its ability to heal.
If you are already taking medication, it is a good idea to speak with your doctor before going ahead with your permanent or semi-permanent makeup application.
For example, if you are using Accutane (or other retinoids), you must stop taking the drug for six months before you can apply permanent or semi-permanent makeup. Accutane, the brand name for isotretinoin, has been thought to interfere with wound healing, although this may not always be the case.
Your lash extensions have to go
Remove them for at least a day or two (or up to a week, to be on the safe side) before the cosmetic ink is applied. If the extensions are pulled too close to the appointment, the glue may remain on the lash line, which could interfere with the ink.
Eyelash extensions can be reapplied once the liner has healed.
Contact lenses
If you wear contact lenses, you should remove them before the procedure. You should also be prepared not to use them for a few days afterwards, she added, your eyes may be a bit swollen or sensitive after application.
There is more than one type of eyeliner to choose from. Everyone we spoke to explained that there are generally two styles of permanent eyeliner.
First is the closed line, which consists of adding the pigment between the layers of the lashes to darken the lash line, leaving you with a subtle lift of the lashes.
This option is much thinner than an eyeliner, and is considered very natural looking. An example of a closed-line application is called Lash Effect. Then there is the eyeliner, which is one step above »the straight line.
For eyeliner application, the pigment is actually applied above the lash line and is drawn almost like applying liquid eyeliner.
It is mainly for people who wear that look on a daily basis and want to stop having to. He also noted that the technician will work with the client and take into account their facial features to determine what size and shape the eyeliner should be.
How long does the procedure take?
“It depends on how [thick] the customer wants it. If you want a traditional eyeliner, it can be done in an hour, including numbing and pre-drawing, but if you want a wing or cat eye, it will take longer.
Clients can expect to be with her for about two hours, including the numbing process, which takes about 30 minutes.
For a stronger eyeliner line, it could take two and a half to three hours, involve your clients in the design to make sure the final product is exactly what they want.
Eyeliner tattoo, does it hurt?
Everyone we spoke to said that a numbing cream was applied to the area prior to the actual procedure. Once the effects of the cream kick in, the whole process of eyeliner tattoo should theoretically be quite painless.
However, each person has a different tolerance for pain, which means that some people may find the procedure minimally uncomfortable, while others find it very painful (even with a numbing cream).
For the sake of comparison, some clients who have said their eyeliner procedure was more painful than microdiffusion, although they also noted that they have never had clients need to stop in the middle of an application due to pain.
Before and after a permanent eyeliner application.
Once your eyeliner is applied, there really is no downtime. You can drop off and go to your daily tasks and even drive home.
The only thing you cannot do is wear makeup, especially the mask (which is quite full of bacteria after the first use. Do not go to saunas or swimming pools.
You may experience some scabbing as your lining heals, but it will likely be minimal. If it has scabs, do not remove it. You just noticed little black flakes falling off your lashes over the course of a couple of days.
Everyone we spoke to said that a tight line application should generally heal within three to seven days, but a thicker eyeliner application can take seven to 10 days.
You should definitely avoid touching or rubbing your eyes while they heal, so that you don’t spread germs or bacteria around the area.
How long does it last?
And if you hate it, will it ever completely disappear? The “tattooed” eyeliner usually lasts about a year, it could last two or three years. However, the pigment will eventually fade. Many clients return after about a year to get touch-ups.
If you finally decide that you don’t want the eyeliner, it may completely fade in one to three years. Everyone’s skin is pigmented differently, so it’s hard to say how long it will take for the liner to become invisible.
How much?
Having your eyeliner applied this way is definitely not cheap. Rob and Meyer noted that the initial application will typically run anywhere from $ 500 to over $ 1,000, depending on what you’re looking for.
Tightline application will generally be less expensive than thicker eyeliner. As for touch-ups, they could cost between $ 200 and $ 700.

Permanent makeup can be beneficial for anyone who wants to be free to apply, reapply, or control their makeup, or anyone who has allergies to makeup products.
It is ideal for women who are active: they play sports, have children, run businesses, travel or are “on the go” from morning to night.
It is a relief for women who have arthritis, whose eyesight is declining, or for anyone who finds it difficult to apply makeup on a regular basis.
Permanent makeup is safe and non-toxic, and is available for eyeliner, eyebrow, lip, nipple, and beauty mark, and to correct color spots or to help minimize scars.
The new makeup inks can be the same color for any skin tone.
We use very powerful numbing agents for painless applications.
We spend a lot of time before the procedure to determine the exact measurements, location, and color so that you get the look you want. You will return to your regular routine after two days; in less than three weeks you will be completely cured.
Permanent cosmetics generally last 3 to 5 years before you need a reapplication, at which point you can vary the colors and shades.
PERMANENT EYELINER STYLES
Eyeliner is a makeup lover’s best friend. You can define your lashes and make your eyes open, drawing everyone’s attention to the “windows of your soul”.
But if you wear eyeliner every day, you know how irritating the daily grind of applying and removing it can be (not to mention the raccoon residue you can see at the end of the day).
If that sounds like your daily makeup routine, you might consider permanent eyeliner. Although this procedure could revolutionize your morning schedule, you must choose carefully from the many styles of permanent eyeliner available. Use this guide as a starting point to choose your perfect style.
PERMANENT EYELINER STYLES
Different women prefer different styles of permanent eyeliner. Skin tone, hair color, eye color, and old preferences often affect the decision. The first step to making a safe decision is knowing and understanding your options, so let’s start there.
HOW BOLD SHOULD YOUR PERMANENT MAKEUP BE?
The thickness of your permanent eyeliner will determine how bold or dramatic your appearance will be. Take a moment and think about whether you want your eyeliner to be thick, thin, or somewhere in between.
Unlike a brush or pencil, a tattoo needle starts inside the lashes, so be sure to clarify how thin you want your eyeliner. How thick are you currently wearing your eyeliner on a daily basis?
Lash enhancement is an extremely subtle application of tattooing. It can be done as a thin line that does not leave the lash area or as a point at the base of each lash.
This does not give an eyeliner look, but rather a subtle darkening and thickening of the lashes. This is also great for men who want their eyes to be more noticeable but not have a line.
Fine eyeliner is ideal for women who want a more natural look but want the boldness of a line. Even a very thin line can make the eyes open in a natural and attractive way. This is a wonderful option for women who don’t wear a lot of makeup.
The medium width eyeliner is ideal for women who wear makeup every day and want a look that oscillates between natural and bold.
Thick eyeliner should only be selected by women who wear a significant amount of makeup each day and are ready to commit to a permanent bold makeup look.
Due to the trauma of the tattoo procedure, we are unable to safely tattoo an extremely thick line in the eyelid area.
Keep in mind that you can always add to your permanent eyeliner, but you can’t take anything away. So if you’re not sure what thickness of a line to order, start off thin.
If you finally want to add more drama or boldness for an evening, you can apply makeup over the top of the tattoo.
WHICH COLOR WOULD YOU LIKE?
Next, you will need to decide on the color of your eyeliner. Unsurprisingly, the two most common colors are brown and black. However, some installations offer alternative colors, such as green, blue or purple.
To determine which shade is right for you, examine the color of your skin, hair, and eyes, and then think about the look you hope to achieve. For example, if you are pale, blonde and expect to have a natural look, you can choose a brown instead of a more intense black.
HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT THE MAKEUP TRENDS?
Winged eyeliner is also a very popular fashion trend, and it looks great when applied. However, once aging becomes a factor, those beautiful wings can turn into devastating tears as the skin sags.
For this reason, we do not recommend trendy styles for permanent makeup. It is best to choose a classic style, something that will never go out of style. Only you can decide what style of eyeliner you want, but carefully consider your options if you are leaning towards something modern. Be positive that you will love it for many years!
WHAT EYELINERS SHOULD I WATCH OUT OF?
There are some eyeliner trends that should not be considered for permanent eyeliner. For example, tattooing on the mucosa or wet part of the eye is extremely dangerous and can lead to many medical problems.
Connecting the upper and lower eyeliner can also be popular, but it can lead to complications when tattooing. The skin in the corners of the eyes is very thin and the tattoo has a high probability of migration (or moving out of the tattoo area) and leaves a permanent purple appearance.
White eyeliner is also a no-no when it comes to tattoos . White can start to look unsightly as you age, turning whitish in color, and it is also extremely difficult to remove.
Some tattooists will also try to cover a poorly done eyeliner with white, which can make the whole problem worse. The “French” eyeliner, molded after a French manicure.
It is where a white line is drawn over another eyeliner, usually black. This can be fun with topical eye makeup, but it doesn’t look good with a tattoo.
Eyeliner eyes permanent can be an excellent decision and that saves time, but must decide which one is right for you. Carefully consider your options, imagine your future self, and move forward only when you are absolutely sure that you are making the right decision.
